A GSC client for almost a decade and ½, this Institute was founded in 1961. More than 107,000 technicians and technologists have met rigorous certification criteria, and the number grows rapidly as more employers and local and state governments rely on certification to measure the qualifications of their workforce. The certificate and wallet card issued serve as a portable credential for certified technicians and technologists who seek to maximize their skills and knowledge and advance in their professions. By employing those workers who have demonstrated their technical mastery, employers can provide their customers higher quality goods and services. And, ultimately, the public enjoys a higher degree of safety and protection.
This Institute provides certification to various individuals in the realm of engineering technologies based on testing, experience, and supervisor verification. General Systems originally developed a relational database system in 1991 to implement the production and tracking of these tests and the related qualifications for certification.
The application encompasses processing for committees, volunteers, applications for certification, invoices and payments, test centers and scheduling, individualized examinations, exam scoring and challenges, statistical analysis, directories, certification requirements, special contracts, and pre and post testing requirements.
In 2000, this application was rewritten using state-of-the-art technology. The new application based on Windows 2000 client/server technology. The exam questions are input and modified using Microsoft Word and then stored in the database. The Oracle database interfaces with Microsoft Word to produce the individualized tests as well as the many customized forms and letters required for communication with the prospective certificants.
